Olive's Sonnet (Sonnetto d'Olivia)

from Volta by Andrea Lucia

/

lyrics

The World returns to its nest in a coming leap
after the seasons have pondered ends

and forgotten their defeats. Our Fall was

drawn as One by the compass in the sky.
And from there emerged the moon, jewelled
and angled as we lie. Now we find its luster

born again beneath each tree. With olive eyes

I pray to harvest you in me. In these
groves we’ve wandered and my hands have held

this vision. My fingers drip with the image
of our most blessed incision. If chance happens
to find us nestled in each egg of time,

Our yolk has left me doubtless if

this shell be yours or mine.

a story, a conversation, or a dream.
